Kirsten and I decided to kayak to a cafe this morning in Raglan. The sun was shining so we thought it was a perfect plan. We kayaked up the main harbour in Raglan and then followed a stream to the right which lead us to a cafe called Rock- it Cafe (https://www.rockitraglan.co.nz).
We hired our kayaks from “Raglan Back Packers” they were really helpful and also had a map on the wall so we could look and know where to head.
We did get the tides slightly wrong by about 1 hour, so we were paddling against the wind and tide on the way there and got rather tired. It was definitely a good challenge.
We ended up doing quite a bit of paddling….but it was pretty and a nice sunny day so we enjoyed it.
Finally we arrived….
The way back was soooo much easier with the wind behind us and the tide on our side. Overall we really enjoyed it, we just wished we had headed out earlier so we could have been on the water before high tide, but it ended up being a good wee training session, so sweet as.
Top tips for this trip
- The less wind the better
- Leave 2 hours before high tide
