This is a great hike to do if you are in the Rotorua area, located 20 minutes drive south on the way to Taupo. We started the walk from Rainbow Mountain Scenic Reserve on SH5 Thermal Explorer Highway.
The walk takes approximately 1 and half hours to the summit (one way).
Once we reached the bottom we explored for another hour and found Kerosene Creek, which is a natural thermal hot pool, we enjoyed soaking in here.
Things to see on the way
- Crater Lakes
- Hot Pools (bring your swimwear to soak in them)
- At the top the view is amazing with rolling green hills and more crater lakes to view.
